Damage Prevention
Causes of Foundation Damage:
1. Seasonal drying and drought like conditions cause the soil to shrink. Excessive rain causes it to swell just like a sponge. The shifting and moving of the ground below stresses the foundation and eventually cracks the slab.
2. Tree root systems can do damage two ways: They can deprive the soil of much needed moisture which can cause shifting, and they can physically contact the foundation as they grow, putting pressure on the slab. In both cases this will lead to costly foundation damage.
3. Water and sewer pipes running under the foundation of the house and out to the main city lines can deteriorate with age, or crack due to stress from shifting soil and foundation. Besides the costly water waste, this can cause the foundation to sink in the middle causing structural damage.
